What to do next

  1. Restart the mower three times in a row and see whether the wheel hub motor error clears. If it does, keep an eye on it - Mammotion calls a one-off case a possible temporary abnormality.

Applies when: the mower stops with a wheel hub motor error, while mowing, just after leaving the station, or sitting on the charger.

Worked if: the error clears and the mower finishes its task.

Didn't work? Next: step 2 — If the mower was washed or out in the rain recently, power it...

Method: Mammotion's own reply to a LUBA 3 AWD owner (manufacturer statement)

  2. If the mower was washed or out in the rain recently, power it off and leave it to dry for 48 hours. Do not turn it on or put it on the charging station during that time. Then test it again.

Applies when: the error keeps returning and the mower has been washed or exposed to water.

Worked if: a fault caused by moisture clears once the mower is fully dry.

Didn't work? Next: step 3 — With the mower powered off, check for anything caught in the...

  3. With the mower powered off, check for anything caught in the wheels, clean around the wheel hub motors, and turn all four wheels by hand to feel for anything stopping them.

Applies when: drying did not help, or the mower was dry to begin with.

Worked if: a jammed or dirty wheel is found and cleared.

Didn't work? Next: step 4 — Upload a device log from the app and contact support with...

Method: Mammotion's checklist for a related LUBA 2 AWD error, "wheel speed cannot be detected" (manufacturer statement)

  4. Upload a device log from the app and contact support with roughly when the error happened and your device name. Ask which wheel the log points to.

Applies when: the error keeps coming back after restarts and drying, or the mower will not move at all.

Worked if: support can see which motor reported the fault and arrange a repair under warranty.

Didn't work? Next: step 5 — Tell us what it turned out to be - which wheel, whether it was...

Stop and get help if: the mower will not move even under remote control - stop and send the log; two owners in these threads were booked in for a repair.

Method: Mammotion's own reply, and two owners whose mowers were booked in for repair

  5. Tell us what it turned out to be - which wheel, whether it was wet inside, and whether a restart, drying or a repair fixed it.

Applies when: any step above settled it, or none did.

Worked if: the cause stops being a guess for the next owner.

Method: this page's own closing request

Did this work, or not? Tell us what happened — a report from someone who hit it is what turns one dealer's method into a documented fix.

Independently reported 2 times by different owners. Manufacturer has acknowledged this. This records that the issue was independently reported — it isn't an estimate of how common the issue is among all owners.

Before you start: if your LUBA 3 AWD stops with a "Wheel hub motor error," restart it three times in a row first. If it got wet recently, power it off and let it dry for 48 hours without charging it. Those are Mammotion's own first steps. If the error keeps coming back, upload a log and contact support — two owners' mowers were booked in for repair.

The symptom

The mower stops and reports a wheel hub motor error. Owners describe it happening:

  • Early in the mower's life. One owner's LUBA 3 AWD failed after about nine hours of use, two weeks after it arrived1. Another's had been used about five times in its first month, reported the error, and then would not charge or connect to the app4.
  • When it was not even moving. A LUBA 3 AWD 3000 showed the error "just over a month" after purchase while it was sitting in the charging station2.
  • Over and over in one day. An owner whose mower had run since late May saw it fail five times in one session, each time needing a restart. By the end of the day it would not move at all, even under remote control, and it also reported a cutting-deck communication error3.

What Mammotion says to do

A Mammotion account replied to one of these owners: "Please try restarting the mower three times consecutively and check whether the Wheel Hub Motor Error disappears afterward." If it clears, keep an eye on it, since it "may have been a temporary abnormality." If the mower was washed or exposed to water, "please power it off and leave it to dry for 48 hours," and do not turn it on or put it on the charging station while it dries. If the error still comes back, send support roughly when it happened and your device number3.

For a related error on a LUBA 2 AWD — "wheel speed cannot be detected" — another Mammotion account added a wheel check: look for anything stuck in the wheels, clean the wheel hub motors, and "Manually rotate all four wheels to check whether there is any obstruction."5 That is a different model and a different message, so treat it as a sensible check rather than LUBA 3 advice.

Is it water in the hub?

Not confirmed. One commenter, writing in two of these threads, says some LUBA 3s built before the end of June had a problem that let water into a wheel hub motor, usually a front one — in the second thread they say someone who works at Mammotion told them, and that it was possibly a bad seal13. Mammotion has not said this publicly, so this site treats it as second-hand.

It also does not fit every case. Two owners took all four wheel hubs apart and found them dry — "All four are bone dry and no obstructions around the axle," one wrote31. One of them went on to see the problem clear on its own: after a day of errors and a repair already booked, a restart from the app the next morning brought the mower back, and it finished its scheduled tasks without help3. Two other mowers were booked in for repair with Mammotion; one went and came back, the other was being packed to ship24. What failed inside them has not been published.

If your LUBA 3 AWD shows a wheel hub motor error: restart it three times; if it got wet, let it dry for 48 hours without charging; check the wheels turn freely by hand. If it keeps coming back or the mower will not move, upload a log and contact support with when it happened. Tell us which wheel it was and what fixed it.
