Automower EPOS: the mower cannot find the reference station, or its signal reads 1%
An Automower NERA with EPOS can take its correction signal from a reference station that the owner puts on a roof or wall. Husqvarna describes that option in its own guide Automower keeps stopping on an EPOS lawn: Husqvarna's checks. Some owners found that the mower could not pair with the station, or lost it, although the station's light was steady green.

What to do next
-
Note what the app shows: no mower listed while pairing the station, a station serial number of 0, or a signal strength stuck at 1% with the station's light steady green. Note also whether the mower still mows.
More about this step
Applies when: the mower cannot pair with its reference station, loses it, or shows a very low signal.
Worked if: you can tell the dealer exactly what the station and mower report.
Didn't work? Next: step 2 — Wait, and restart. Switch the mower and the station off and on....
Method: eight owners across two threads; the serial of 0 was reported by two owners; one owner's mower mowed with the signal at 1%
-
Wait, and restart. Switch the mower and the station off and on. One owner pulled the mower about a metre out of the station, restarted it and paired again, and that worked. Two owners had the station come back by itself, after several hours to a day, or by the evening.
More about this step
Applies when: the problem appeared at the start of a season or after a long pause.
Worked if: the mower finds the station, or you know it needs more than a restart.
Didn't work? Next: step 3 — Take the station to a dealer and ask for its software update and...
Method: one owner for whom pulling the mower out worked; two for whom time worked; two for whom switching everything off and on did not
-
Take the station to a dealer and ask for its software update and a test on the dealer's PC. Two owners had the station's software updated at the dealer (one cured, one expecting it to be); another dealer's PC test found a damaged board in the station.
Stop and get help if
you are about to move or replace the station yourself: one poster says that means a factory reset and the loss of all maps and settings, so ask the dealer first.
More about this step
Applies when: the restart did not help, or the app shows a station serial number of 0.
Worked if: the station is updated, or the dealer finds the fault.
Didn't work? Next: step 4 — Ask for the station to be replaced under warranty. Do this if...
Method: two owners with an update at the dealer; one whose dealer found a damaged RTK board
-
Ask for the station to be replaced under warranty. Do this if the dealer finds a fault, or the update and a factory reset did not help. Three owners had it replaced; one also had the receiver in the mower replaced. All three say the system then ran again.
More about this step
Applies when: the station or its board is the likely fault.
Worked if: a working station, and the mower pairs and keeps its signal.
Method: three owners with a replaced station, one of them with a replaced receiver in the mower

What the reports have in common
Eight owners describe the problem on their own mower, on the 430X NERA, 450X NERA and 410XE12.
- The station looks fine. Steady green light on the station while the app shows no mower during pairing1, or a signal strength that sits at 1%2. Two owners also had a short red flash: one every 30 seconds1, one for a second or two now and then, which the owner says the manual does not explain (it lists only a continuous red flash)2.
- It often starts after a pause. Three owners met it when starting the mower again in March after the winter1.
- A weak reading does not always stop mowing. One RS5 owner says the app mostly shows 1%, even with the mower passing 5 m (16 ft) away, and the mower usually mows anyway. He asks whether it is only a display fault; nobody answered2.
What fixed it, by number of owners
The station replaced: three owners, all reporting it then ran. One owner's RS5 dropped out repeatedly, showed 1% at 12 metres (39 feet) and could not be paired again; after sending the station in and getting another, he reports no trouble since, adding that the weather had not been hot2. A second owner with the same symptoms had the dealer plug the station into a PC, which found a damaged RTK board, and the dealer swapped the station2. A third had the station and the receiver in the mower replaced after a factory reset, a reinstall and the latest software all failed; the system then ran stably1.
The station's software updated by a dealer: two owners. One owner's pairing showed no mower and a station serial number of 0; the dealer updated the station and the owner says it should now be solved, without confirming. A second owner with the same serial of 0 says a station software update fixed it and asks the first owner whether the dealer took the charging station too1. One poster says updates are normally done on site at the customer's1.
The mower pulled a metre out of the station, then restarted: one owner. A 450X owner who needed about an hour and a half to get going says pulling the mower about a metre out of the charging station, restarting it and pairing again worked for him1.
Waiting: two owners. One owner's station was found again after several hours or a day, more than once2. Another's 450 NERA showed "no connection to the reference station" with a steady green station light and, when the owner went to check it again that evening, worked1.
What did not help
- A factory reset of the mower and a fresh install: two owners1.
- The latest software on the mower and charging station: two owners. For one, the dealer's new software changed nothing; for the other, the update he was offered on the day did not touch the fault1.
- Switching mower and station off and on: two owners, one of whom switched every component off several times2.
- Removing the mower from the Bluetooth list and restarting it: the owner who opened the pairing thread tried this1.
Reports of a station that works
Two owners report no trouble: an RS5 on a roof with a serial number beginning 241 that "from the start" had no problems2, and a 430X NERA with an RS1 whose app shows 97% five metres from the station and 90% at ten2. The second poster asked whether the mowers of those with problems had received a firmware update2.
What owners heard, unconfirmed
- One poster says there was a delivery stop on reference stations and plug-in kits from the maker some weeks before July 2023 after isolated reports of problems like these. It is second-hand1.
- An owner whose RS5 failed on 10 June 2024 had received an automatic update about ten days earlier and speculated that cold temperatures or the update were behind it: the app read 1% on cold mornings and evenings and 75% with a green tick when warm2. This is one owner's guess, not a finding. That owner switched to a boundary wire and sent the station to the dealer; no result is posted2.
What's unknown
- A single cause. A damaged board, station software and a failing receiver each appear once or twice.
- Firmware as the cause. The one owner who linked it to a firmware update gives no version for the station, and two other owners had the fault after a winter with no update mentioned.
- How common it is. These are the owners who posted, not a count of stations.
- Moving the station. One poster says moving a station or getting a new one means a factory reset and the loss of all maps and settings2.
