Automower battery wearing out: shorter mowing, random stops, and replacing the pack
A robot mower's battery is a wear part, and several owners write that theirs wore out. The signs were stops in the middle of the lawn, a blank screen, a mower that went home more often, or a shorter mowing spell on a full charge. Replacing the pack cured the mower for the three owners who report a result; for a fourth, a dead mower, the pack was not the fault.

What to do next
-
Write down the mower's age, its number of full charges, and how long it mows on one charge. One 315 owner found the full charges under the key data in the menu; another owner could not find the count on a 430X. Owners who wrote about a worn pack had between about 1,600 and 4,500 charges.

Applies when: the mower stops mid-lawn, goes home more often, or mows for shorter spells than it used to.
Worked if: you can compare your mower with the owners who replaced the pack.

Method: eight owners in two threads; the charge counts range from 1,591 to 4,493 and are the owners' own readings

Time a run from full to empty, twice. Note the time on the second run; the results are also saved in the mower's tool menu. Compare the time with the manufacturer's figure for your model. One owner's test stopped at 41% and read 2,431 mAh, and he replaced the pack; another regular says a mower of his lost 30 to 40% of its mowing time.

Applies when: the symptoms above, or a mower of more than five years.
Worked if: you know whether the pack is far below what the maker states.

Method: the test is a forum regular's description, not a Husqvarna page we have read; one owner's reading of 2,431 mAh; the key presses that open the tool menu were wrong for one 315 owner and corrected

If the pack is worn, replace it with the right model for your mower. Order by model and, for one owner, with the machine's serial number. Three owners did this themselves and report the mower ran well afterwards. One compatible pack from a marketplace worked but showed a 'temporary battery' message and 2.6 A instead of the 5.2 A advertised.
Stop and get help if
you are not sure how to open the mower with the battery disconnected, or the dealer is the one who must do it for your warranty: leave it to the dealer.

Ask the dealer to test the battery and the charging path. One owner's dealer (by phone) said a new pack needs resets and balancing at a specialist shop and that one customer had burned his main board by changing it himself; two regulars disagree, one of whom had fitted a pack himself. Weigh both.

Worked if: someone with the tool reads the pack, or you know the dealer's terms.

What the reports have in common
Ten owners write about the battery on their own mower1234.
- Stops mid-lawn. A 430X from January 2017 stopped twice in the middle of the lawn with a low-battery message, with 4,493 charges and 11,866 hours; its reading was 3,156 mAh against a capacity of 4,160 mAh1. The 315, eight years old, stopped at random, never in the same place, with a blank screen. Back in the station it asked for the PIN, the language, the date and time and the PIN again, then for a guide recalibration, and ran normally until the next stop2.
- Shorter mowing. A regular's 430X from 2021 mows for 3.5 hours where he gives the manufacturer's figure as 4.5 hours, with more than 9,600 hours and 2,180 charges; he plans to change the packs after the season. A few weeks later he writes of more than 2,300 charges and 30 to 40% of the mowing time lost12. A 430X from 2020 with 2,742 charges seemed to go to recharge often1.
- No warning. A regular says some packs warn by showing wear now and then, as the 315's did, and others stop suddenly. He says there is no way to tell how long a worn pack will last; that is his experience2.
- Age and cycles vary. An owner whose 430X ran fine at 1,591 charges was told by a regular that a pack takes about 3,000 cycles on average; that is one regular's figure, not a manufacturer's1. Owners replaced at about 1,630, 2,742 and 3,182 charges12.
What fixed it, by number of owners
A new pack: three owners, all report it ran well. A 430X owner with 1,630 charges and about 5,700 hours replaced the pack for 60 euro with a compatible one, finds the change very easy, and says the mower set off "as new"1. A 430X owner with 2,742 charges ran the battery test from 100%, which stopped at 41%, read 2,431 mAh, replaced the pack, and confirmed in April 2026 that it was effective and very easy to do1. The 315 owner bought a new pack, sent the machine's serial number to the shop, followed the shop's video, and replaced gaskets and blades at the same time; he says the mower has its old energy back2. In the last case the new parts were fitted at once, so the pack alone cannot be credited.
A compatible pack with odd figures: one owner. A compatible pack from a marketplace, listed for several Automower models, worked but showed a "temporary battery" message and 2.6 A against 5.2 A in its description1. A regular asked the 60 euro owner for the type, brand and seller, and for a check of charging and mowing time a few weeks on, given the usual difficulties with compatible packs; no answer is posted1.
An order with no result: one owner. The 430X owner with 4,493 charges ordered a new pack in March 2024 and kept the old one, after deciding not to risk repairing the cells himself; no later result is posted1.
When the pack was not the whole story
Dead with no warning, and the pack not the cause: one owner. A 430X first used in April 2019, with 1,580 charges and 3,675 hours and a pack never replaced, was found with a dark screen and no response at the end of July 2026. Its last two mowing runs, about three hours each, had shown no sign of weakness. A new-generation pack made no difference. A dealer found the main board dead and thought the heat did it, since the mower is not made for more than 40 °C; the owner doubts that. The dealer also said the old pack was at the end of its life and would probably have gone within a year. One forum member remarked that a dealer's diagnoses are bound to be a little commercial. A regular said a pack averages about five years and that eight is almost a miracle3.
Two packs dead at once: one owner. A used 330X, with packs labelled 2021, 4,226 charges and 15,217 hours on its display, would not charge. Off the mower the packs read 7 V and 9 V; in it the display showed about 19 V with a state of charge of minus 1 mAh. The owner was surprised that both had died together without warning. A regular answered that some packs wear visibly and others die suddenly, and that two original packs from one batch can fail together. The owner later confirmed the old packs were dead; a corroded connector in the charging path was also found, which is on the docking and charging page4.
What the owners disagree on
A 430X owner relayed what an installer said by phone: new packs in their case need resets and discharge balancing that only a specialist shop can do, and one customer burned his main board changing a pack himself. A regular answered that this was to steer him to the installer, that he had done the swap himself, and that many on the forum had without trouble, as long as the right model is ordered; another says a lithium pack needs no resets or balancing. The installer's account is second-hand and unconfirmed1.
How to test it, as a regular describes it
A regular describes timing a run to empty. Start the mower to a secondary zone "until exhausted", let it run down, take it to the station by hand and charge fully, then do it a second time; the figures are saved in the tool menu, and the time is compared with the manufacturer's stated time for the model. The key presses he first gave to open that menu gave the 315 owner nothing, and the regular then said a long press on 0 inside the menu2.
What's unknown
- How long a pack lasts. The owners' charge counts run from 1,591 with no sign of wear to 4,493 with two stops, and a pack's life depends on use.
- That a compatible pack is as good as an original. One worked, one gave odd figures; neither is a test.
- That the 315 was cured by the pack alone. Gaskets and blades were changed too.
- How common it is. These are the owners who posted, not a count of mowers.
