Automower docks but won't charge, or won't enter the station
An Automower that drives into its station, charges for a few seconds and backs out again is one of the faults owners post about most. The display usually ends on one of two messages, and they point at different problems: "Ladestation blockiert" (charging station blocked) is about how the mower enters the station, and "Problem Ladesystem" (charging system problem) is about the charge itself. The message names here are the German text owners quote; the English app wording may differ.

What to do next
-
Note which message the display shows: 'Charging station blocked' or 'Charging system problem'. Then switch the mower off, push it into the station by hand and start it there.
More about this step
Applies when: the mower enters the station and leaves again, or stops beside the station.
Worked if: you know whether it charges when placed by hand. In the reports below it did, which means the contacts and the supply can work, and the fault is in how it docks or in the charging-current check.
Didn't work? Next: step 2 — Clean the contacts on the station and on the mower's nose. Then...
Method: four owners who tried it (two on a 430X or 430X NERA, one on a 450X, one model not stated); the message names are the German display text as owners quote it
-
Clean the contacts on the station and on the mower's nose. Then look closely at the mower's metal contact blades: plastic that looks melted, or a blade pushed in, means a new contact set. Check the entry too: a track worn deep into the lawn in front of the plate, a station that sags or tilts, and (one owner's suggestion) a boundary wire that sits too far forward at the plate. One owner fixed it by turning the front of the station about 1 cm (⅜ in) sideways.
Stop and get help if
the contact plastic has melted or a blade is pushed in: fit new contacts or take it to a dealer, because a melted contact can heat again.

Take the power supply, the low-voltage cable and the mower to a dealer. Do this if it docks, charges for a few seconds and backs out, and the display says 'Charging system problem'. Ask for the charging current to be checked. Tell them whether it only happens after a long run with a lower battery.
Stop and get help if
a plug inside the mower or the station smells burnt or has melted: stop using that station and take it to a dealer.
More about this step
Applies when: the contacts are clean, the mower charges when placed by hand, and the entry looks fine.
Worked if: the dealer finds the fault (in the reports: a power supply giving too little charging current) or recalibrates the charging-current check in Husqvarna's dealer tool.
Method: two owners cured by a new power supply, one owner relaying Husqvarna's recalibration, one owner whose plug melted after a repair

"Charging system problem": the mower charges briefly, then backs out
Six owners describe this, across the 450X, the 430X NERA and three mowers whose model they did not state, between 2023 and 2026. The pattern is similar each time: the mower docks, charges for roughly 10 to 15 seconds, backs out about a metre, and repeats until it stops beside the station with the message12.
Three details recur:
- It charges when placed by hand. Pushed into the station and started there, the mower stays and charges normally. Two owners say so, and a third says charging works only occasionally that way12.
- Several started after winter service or a firmware update. Three of the 2023 owners describe the fault beginning after a spring update. One of them says Husqvarna support told him the defect was known and that only new firmware helped, which is his account of a call, not a Husqvarna document1.
- It can depend on how empty the battery is. One 430X NERA owner tested in steps. The mower docked correctly after mowing a small part of the lawn, and failed only after a full run, arriving with about 50 percent charge. The dealer's small test area never reproduced it2.
What fixed it, by number of owners
- A new power supply: two owners. A 450X owner's mower ran normally after a new power supply unit and still did three weeks later1. A 430X NERA owner's dealer, after a call with Husqvarna, found the power supply giving too little charging current, and replaced it. That owner says power supplies "are probably not very long-lived", adding that an older mower of his lost two in ten years2.
- New firmware plus a recalibration: one owner. A 450X owner reports that Husqvarna added a function in its dealer tool to calibrate the charging-current check, and that the mower worked again after the update and the recalibration. A second owner says the dealer was to recalibrate the same way, then later got a new power supply and says that is what solved it1.
- Not fixed, or not reported: three owners. One owner had cables, batteries and the station board replaced for 660 euros after a plug inside melted two days after a software update, with no result reported1. One had the board replaced and still saw the fault1. One was still looking in 20251.
Safety note. One owner's plug inside the mower melted two days after a dealer's update1. If a plug, a cable or the station smells burnt or looks discoloured, stop using it and have a dealer check it.
"Charging station blocked": the mower will not settle on the plate
Two owners found a cause in how the mower enters the station. A 430X that had worked for a year stopped docking and showed the message. The owner could not cure it by cleaning the contacts or propping the station, and fixed it by turning the front of the station about 1 cm (⅜ in) sideways, which changed the angle of entry. He says he does not know why it had worked for a year3. A second owner, after three years, found the track the mower had worn into the lawn was too deep for it to climb onto the plate3. A third owner posted two years later with the same message and got only a pointer to other threads.
Settings that make the mower dock along the guide cable: one owner helped, two not. One owner whose station stands where the boundary cable cannot approach it square says he fixed slow docking by setting the station's signal to minimum, switching off following the boundary cable, and switching on following the guide cable. Other forum members replied that the guide cable already has priority and that the delay should be zero minutes, not two. A 405X owner whose mower stopped finding the station entrance three hours after installation tried the settings and says they did not help; another 405X owner tried them and says the mower still tried to dock to the right of the station at the boundary cable. A regular asked whether the station was set up as the manual describes9.
Charging contacts and the wire behind them
Two owners found the fault in the physical charging path:
- Melted contacts on the mower's nose (430X, 2026). The mower followed the guide wire, lined up with the plate, stopped as its rear wheels began to climb, and backed away. A new front sensor board helped for two days. Then the owner looked at the metal charging blades on the nose, found melted plastic on one side and a blade pushed in, fitted a new set, and it charged again. He thinks the summer's heat melted them, because the mower stands in the sun with no shelter4. A forum regular's explanation was that a large current flows while charging and can melt plastic connectors. That is one person's reading.
- An oxidised connector on the whisker cable (330X, 2026). A used 330X's two old batteries would not charge, and new ones would not charge in the mower either, though they took a charge from a bench supply; the mower also refused to make a new loop signal. Swapping the owner's two mowers between their stations showed the fault stayed with the 330X, not the station. The cause was a waterproof connector the owner had fitted on the cable between the whiskers and the chassis, which had oxidised. Voltage readings looked normal and the mower beeped on the station, but the owner thinks the connector let only a very small current through. He replaced it and charging and the loop signal worked. The old batteries were truly dead6.
- Connectors cleaned and refitted (265 ACX, 2026). A 265 ACX with new batteries showed 28.7 V while on the station and "low batteries" at start. A regular said that voltage means the battery is not charging, since it should fall to about 21 V on charge7. The owner checked continuity from the whiskers to the board, then took apart, cleaned and refitted every connection, and the mower worked again7.
- A charge current that flipped to negative (420, 2026). A 420's display showed the charge current climbing to 2400 and dropping below zero in turn. A regular said negative means the battery is feeding the mower, so it is not charging, and pointed to the contacts and the low-voltage cable. The owner fitted a new cable, new whiskers, a new battery and a station board. A mechanic's test on his own small circuit with the owner's mower, station and transformer worked, and an update changed nothing at home. At the end of May the owner moved the station, charged the mower by hand and set it to start three hours later, and says it ran without trouble from the evening before, for a reason that remains a mystery8.
- A damaged wire inside an older 230 ACX (2026). A mower that would not charge had a continuity test that passed with the body open and failed with it closed. The owner traced it to the whisker wire damaged by taking the body off repeatedly5. The 230 ACX is an older model than the rest of this page.
What the 300-series and 405X/415X manuals say
The manuals for the smaller models say less about charging than the 420 to 450X manual on the 420, 430X, 440 and 450X page, but two rows bear on this page.
- "Empty battery" lists four causes in the 310/315/315X, the 305/310 Mark II/315 Mark II and the 405X/415X manuals: the mower cannot find the station (change the position of the guide wire); the battery is spent, or at the end of its life cycle in the 405X/415X manual (replace it); the station's antenna is damaged (check whether the lamp in the station flashes red); and corroded charging plates on the mower or the station (clean them with a fine grade emery cloth, and if the problem stays, speak to an authorized service technician)101112.
- "Charging system problem" has one cause in the 310/315/315X manual, an incorrect type of battery, with the action to use original batteries10. The 405X/415X manual gives two: corrosion or dirt on the charging and contact plates (restart, then clean them) and a temporary electronic or firmware problem (restart, and if it stays, speak to the approved servicing dealer)12.
The manuals say what Husqvarna tells owners to do. They say nothing about how often it happens or whether it works.
What's unknown
- No single cause. Power supplies, firmware, contacts, wires and the way the mower enters the station all appear.
- How common it is. These are the cases owners posted about. They are not a count of Automowers affected.
- Husqvarna's own position. Any statement that the 2023 "Charging system problem" cases were a firmware defect comes from owners relaying a support call.
- Model scope. Most reports are the 430X, 430X NERA and 450X. Three owners did not give a model.
