Automower 405X and 415X after a 54.x or 57.x update: narrow passage and charging station
Several Automower 405X and 415X owners wrote that, after a firmware update in spring or summer 2024, their mower stopped doing what it had done for two years on an unchanged installation. Two problems recur: the mower no longer finds the narrow passage between two lawn areas, and it stops in front of the charging station or needs several tries to dock.

Safety first
Before you try anything below, read the safety rules from your mower’s manual.
Say which of two things happens. Either the mower no longer finds its way through a narrow passage into another work area, or it stops in front of the charging station (or tries several times) and shows 'Ladestation blockiert' (charging station blocked). The next steps differ.
More about this step
Applies when: a 405X or 415X that worked on the same installation before a firmware update misbehaves after it.
Worked if: you know which set of reports matches your lawn.
Didn't work? Next: step 2 — Open the settings for finding the charging station and for the...
Method: twelve owners in one thread: six with the passage, and eight with the station, two of them with both
-
Open the settings for finding the charging station and for the corridor width along the guide cable. One owner found that the update had put both back to default values; another suggested narrowing the width of the drive area along the guide cable. For the station, one owner set the station's signal to minimum and says the docking improved.

Applies when: the problem began with an update and the installation is unchanged.
Worked if: the mower finds the passage or the station again, or you know the settings were not the cause.
Didn't work? Next: step 3 — Acknowledge the error in the app and let the mower carry on. Do...
Method: one owner who found values reset; one who advised the narrower width; one who lowered the station signal; no outcome is reported for the first two
-
Acknowledge the error in the app and let the mower carry on. Do this if it stops in front of the station with 'Charging station blocked'. One owner says it then docks correctly 98 to 99 times in 100. Treat that as a way to keep going, not a fix.
More about this step
Applies when: the mower stops short of the station and the station itself is clear.
Worked if: the mower docks and charges, without a trip to the garden.
Didn't work? Next: step 4 — Switch the GPS function off in the mower, make the map again,...
Method: one owner on a single connected lawn with an unchanged installation; two other owners saw the same message, with no outcome reported
-
Switch the GPS function off in the mower, make the map again, then switch GPS back on. One owner says Husqvarna advised exactly this; for that owner the mower used the passage again. A second owner got partly there: one guide cable worked, a second still lost its way after about 5 m (16 ft). Before that, a new map made with GPS on had not helped one of them, and neither had a factory reset.
Stop and get help if
the remap fails again, or the mower leaves its area: stop it and take it to the dealer.

Applies when: the passage is the problem and settings and a plain new map did not help.
Worked if: the mower drives into every work area through the passage again.
Didn't work? Next: step 5 — Find out which firmware your mower runs and whether it is the...
Method: two owners who remapped with GPS off (one cured, one partly), relaying what Husqvarna told them
-
Find out which firmware your mower runs and whether it is the newest. Husqvarna's release notes list version 93.5 (November 2025) with improved guide wire navigation in narrow passages and improved docking behaviour, and call it not mandatory but highly recommended. No owner on this page reports what it did.

Applies when: the mower is on 54.x, 57.x or 68.x and the passage or station problem remains.
Worked if: you know whether a newer version that names your problem exists for your mower, and have it installed if so.
Didn't work? Next: step 6 — Ask the dealer who installed it to look at the mower. Also write...
Method: Husqvarna's own release notes for the 405X and 415X (manufacturer statement); no owner report on 93.5
-
Ask the dealer who installed it to look at the mower. Also write to Husqvarna with the firmware version and what changed after the update. One owner says Husqvarna's first answer was to contact the dealer, and that an urgent but friendly request in the subject line got the exchange going. A dealer replaced sensors and the connect module on one 415X and the passage still failed.

Applies when: none of the above helped.
Worked if: someone with the dealer tool looks at your mower, or Husqvarna replies on your case.
Method: three owners who dealt with Husqvarna or a dealer; one dealer repair that did not cure it

"Guide cable" is what the owners call the cable that leads the mower home and through passages.
What the reports have in common
Twelve owners describe one or both problems after the update1.
- The passage: six owners. A 415X came back from service on firmware 54.6 and no longer got through a narrow spot it had passed for two years, even with the corridor width turned down to 11. Others had the same after 54.8, with endless wrong turns between areas, and one said the mower worked if the whole lawn was one area but not once it was split in two1. Another 415X owner says the passage is rarely used and the station is mostly "blocked"1.
- The station: eight owners. On 54.8 a 405X owner's mower found its way home worse, did not find the guide cable (the app listed it as not installed under sensor data), and had to be carried into the station three times in one day1. A 405X owner with a single connected lawn had it fail to find the station almost daily on 54.8, and stop short with "Charging station blocked" once or twice a day on 57.81. Two other owners describe several tries before docking on 57.8, one saying the old version docked first time1.
- The installation had not changed. Owners with two or three years of trouble-free mowing say nothing on their lawn changed1.
What helped, by number of owners
Making the map again with GPS switched off: two owners, one cured and one partly. One owner says Husqvarna advised switching GPS off in the mower, making the map again, then switching GPS back on, and that the mower then went through the passage again. A second owner who tried it got the mower back to every area on one guide cable but not on a second, where it lost its orientation after about 5 m (16 ft) and went home1.
A new map made with GPS on: one owner, no effect. The same owner who was later cured had first remapped twice, including deleting every area but the lawn, and the mower still did not find the second area; a factory reset also changed nothing1.
Settings the update changed: one owner found, one suggested, none reports a result. One owner found that the update had reset the "find charging station" values and the corridor width to their defaults. Another suggested narrowing the width along the guide cable when the mower no longer followed it1.
Lowering the station signal: one owner. After 57.8, a mower that needed several runs at the station docked better once the owner set the station's signal to its minimum1.
Acknowledging the "blocked" message: one owner. The owner with a single connected lawn says that after confirming the error in the app the mower docks correctly 98 to 99 times in 1001.
A power-off and new loop signal: one owner helped, one not. After a 57.x update one owner unplugged everything from power, switched the mower off for three minutes, restarted it and generated a new loop signal; it then ran without trouble. Another tried exactly that and the fault stayed1.
The 57.x updates: no cure for three owners. Three owners with the passage or station problem installed 57.7 or 57.8 and say the fault stayed1.
Dealer hardware: no cure for one. A 415X was given new sensors and a new connect module after nothing worked; it ran again but still would not find the passage1.
Owners who saw no change
Not everyone had a problem. Three owners report 54.x or 57.x without trouble: a 415X and a 405X that ran smoothly on 54.8 and, later, on 57.8 after about 1,100 and 940 hours, another 415X that ran "absolutely without problem" on 54.8 and 57.8, and a poster on 54.2 with no errors1. One owner asked whether the passage problems only occur with two work areas joined by a passage; the owner with a single connected lawn and the station problem shows the station one does not need that1.
What owners say Husqvarna told them
These are owners passing on what they were told, not Husqvarna's own words.
- A support reply, as posted by one owner: updates by air for the 405X and 415X were stopped by a fault until 14 March, and a current version could then be installed only by a dealer with the diagnostic program1. Other owners say the dealer installed it.
- One owner was told to contact the local dealer, then, after a second message, that "the problem has meanwhile been fixed" and needed no firmware update; the owner says it was not fixed1.
- The remap with GPS off, above, is the one piece of advice an owner reports Husqvarna giving1.
What Husqvarna's release notes say
Husqvarna's own release notes for the 405X and 415X name changes in the same two areas, and none says it fixes the problems above. 54.2 (February 2024) and 54.6 (April 2024) list "Improved behaviour when following the guide wire", and 54.6 adds fixes for mowers with old AIM maps getting stuck in a restart loop after 54.2. 57.8 (June 2024) lists improved map handling and an improved factory reset. The newest listed, 93.5 (November 2025), lists "Improved guide wire navigation in narrow passages" and "Improved docking behaviour", and says it is not mandatory but highly recommended2.
The owner reports on this page cover 54.x and 57.x. None is about 93.5, so what it changed for these owners is not known.
What's unknown
- Which firmware does it. Owners name 54.6, 54.8 and 57.x; some do not name a version. Other owners ran the same versions without trouble, so no version can be named as the cause.
- That a setting or a version is the fix. Only the remap with GPS off has an owner who reports it worked, and that is a single owner.
- How common it is. These are the owners who posted, not a count of mowers.
- Later updates. From 2025 owners in the thread report a different problem, the stored map drifting by metres or "false islands" on the map, not covered on this page1.
