Running a Mammotion mower with no Wi-Fi or mobile signal: what still works and what you lose

Owners say a Mammotion mower can mow on its schedule with no network once it is set up, but the app shows no status, sends no alerts and cannot start or stop it. Which models can do it, per a Mammotion staff account, and what owners have tested.

What to do next

  1. Choose a model whose positioning does not depend on iNavi NetRTK. A Mammotion staff account listed three groups: models that position with LiDAR and AI vision (LUBA 3 AWD 1500, LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500, YUKA mini 2 1000 and 800 LiDAR), models that use the tri-vision camera system (LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000, YUKA mini 2 500), and models that use a local RTK station (LUBA 2X, YUKA 2025, LUBA mini AWD, YUKA mini).

  2. Do the setup with a phone hotspot or other connection, then take the mower offline. One owner who planned exactly that says it can run offline after setup; another tested a LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500 with Wi-Fi off and 4G disabled and found that it just works.

  3. Plan for a mower you cannot see. Offline you get no status in the app, no error reports and no notifications, and you cannot start or stop it except by Bluetooth within range. If you can, keep the charging station where there is signal.

Two owners' tests, one model list. The list of models comes from a Mammotion staff account's reply in a Reddit thread, not from a published specification, so it is given here as that reply says it. Check the manual for your model.

Does it work at all?

Yes, according to the owners who tried. A LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500 LiDAR owner tested it with Wi-Fi off and 4G disabled, on June's app and firmware, and says it just works, but the mower is disconnected1. Another owner says Mammotion models can operate completely offline after setup, and that you lose remote control unless you are within Bluetooth range3. A YUKA mini 2 1000 LiDAR owner at a site with no Wi-Fi planned to run it offline until the 4G module was back in stock4. On 27 September a Mammotion staff account told a German LUBA 3 AWD 1500 owner, who suspected his Wi-Fi mesh of causing positioning trouble, that the mower positions itself with its own 360° sensing system, so weak home Wi-Fi or areas without Wi-Fi should not usually affect basic mowing8. The German reply calls that system a radar system.

What you lose

  • Status and alerts. Offline you cannot check the device status in the app, and you get no error reports or notifications5.
  • Control. An owner says you cannot change anything remotely, stop it or start it: you start it locally or use the schedule and hope all is well2.

Which models

The staff account lists the LUBA 3 AWD 1500, LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500, YUKA mini 2 1000 and 800 LiDAR as relying on LiDAR and vision, and the LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000 and YUKA mini 2 500 as relying on the tri-vision camera. Models that use a local RTK station are the LUBA 2X, YUKA 2025, LUBA mini AWD and YUKA mini6. A Mammotion-named account says the NetRTK service works through either a Wi-Fi or a 4G connection7, which is why an off-grid lawn rules those positioning modes out; see the iNavi outage page for how that service works.

An owner asked in the same thread whether the mower or the app must go online at times, for example to check the mower is not stolen. The thread has no answer.
