LUBA: merge two map areas without remapping everything
To join two mapped areas, owners and a Mammotion account say to delete one and edit the border of the other, not to remap both. The catch owners raise: start and end the edit exactly on the existing line, because a small offset at the join can make the mower turn hard there and mark the lawn.

What to do next
-
In the app, delete one of the two areas. One owner deleted the smaller one.

Applies when: you want two areas to become one, for example after a garden bed or fence is gone.

Edit the border of the remaining area to take in the space you want. One owner says you drive the mower to do this. Start and end exactly on the existing line, and choose where the new border runs with care.
Stop and get help if
the mower makes a hard turn back and forth at the spot where you edited the border: a small offset there can mark the lawn, so redo that edge in a different place.

What owners and Mammotion say
An owner who no longer had a garden asked whether two areas can be merged, or whether they must delete and map again1.
- An owner's first answer was that you must remap1.
- Another owner wrote that you do not have to remap both areas: delete one, then edit the border of the other1. A third owner says they did exactly that, deleting the smaller of their two areas and editing the border of the other to include it1.
- A Mammotion account gave the same answer: you do not need to delete and remap everything, you can delete one of the areas and then edit the boundary of the remaining area to cover the space you want1.
- Editing the border by driving. The asker asked whether you have to drive the robot to edit the boundary1. The owner who did it answered yes, in the same reply that describes the edit1.
The catch
One owner warns that you can never line the robot up exactly with the existing boundary, so there is a slight offset. Even at 2 cm, they say, the mower will tank turn 90 degrees and back again at the edit location and you will get lawn damage there, so choose carefully1. A second owner, who has mapped with a LUBA for four years, says the key to editing a map is to start and end exactly on the existing line; if not, the robot "dances" in those spots2. Neither says which model they have. For wear at the turns, see turns tear up the lawn.
What is not known
The threads do not say which model each owner has. No source here says how large an offset leaves a mark.
