Restart or factory reset an Automower: which first, and what a reset keeps

Husqvarna's advice is to restart an Automower first and factory reset it only if the restart does not help. A restart deletes no settings. A factory reset keeps some settings, and it is not a total wipe.

What to do next

  1. Restart the mower and leave the settings alone. On an Automower NERA (jog wheel), turn the wheel to Power off and press it, then hold it for 3 seconds to restart. On an Aspire R6V, 308V, 312V or R4, hold ON/OFF for 3 seconds to turn off and 1 second to turn on. On older keypad models such as the 420, use the power switch at the back or bottom: O is off, | is on.

Applies when: the mower is frozen, behaves oddly or shows a fault, and you have not restarted it yet.

Worked if: the mower is back on with its schedules, map and settings untouched.

Didn't work? Next: step 2 — Factory reset from the app. On an NERA, Aspire R4, R6V, 308V or...

  2. Factory reset from the app. On an NERA, Aspire R4, R6V, 308V or 312V: select the mower, then More > Settings > General > Reset to factory settings. On an older keypad model: Menu > Settings > General > Reset all user settings, then Proceed with reset of all user settings, and confirm.

    Stop and get help if

you are not ready to lose your schedules and map objects: a reset is Husqvarna's second step, not its first.

    More about this step

Applies when: a restart did not clear the problem.

Worked if: user settings such as schedules and map objects are reset, and the mower keeps its security level, PIN code, loop signal, messages, date and time, language and country.

Didn't work? Next: step 3 — Put the mower on its charging station for at least 30 minutes....

  3. Put the mower on its charging station for at least 30 minutes. Do this if the reset does not complete or nothing happens after you confirm. Then restart it and try the reset again, then sign out of the app, sign back in and try once more. If it still fails, contact a Husqvarna dealer.

    Stop and get help if

the display is blank or frozen: Husqvarna has a separate article for that, or use its Product Assistant.

    More about this step

Applies when: the factory reset hangs or does nothing.

Worked if: the reset completes, or a dealer has the case.

  4. Remove the cause first (clear obstacles, or stand the mower upright). Then, at the mower: press STOP, enter your PIN, and choose an operating mode (on a NERA, press the jog wheel first, go to the start symbol, and choose a mode such as Start according to schedule). On older keypad models press STOP, enter the PIN with OK, press START and close the hatch. If the app shows Reset Error, tap it and restart the mower from the app.

    Stop and get help if

the cause of the stop is still there, or the error returns straight away: leave the mower alone and contact a Husqvarna dealer.

    More about this step

Applies when: the app says manual action is required, because STOP was pressed or the mower tilted or hit something.

Worked if: the error is cleared and the mower is in the mode you chose.

The steps below are Husqvarna's own, from its UK support article1 dated May 13, 2026. The article does not say which models each step applies to beyond the groups named here. Menu names can differ by model and by app version.

Restart first

Restart turns the mower off and on again. Husqvarna says no settings are deleted and to try this first1.

  • Automower NERA (models with a jog wheel). Turn the jog wheel to Power off and press it. To restart, press the jog wheel for 3 seconds.
  • Automower Aspire R6V, 308V, 312V and Aspire R4. The ON/OFF button is on the keypad. Press it for 3 seconds to turn the mower off, and for 1 second to turn it on again.
  • Older models with a keypad (such as the 420). The ON/OFF switch is at the back or bottom of the mower and works like a power switch: O is off, | is on.

Factory reset: what it keeps

A factory reset restores user settings such as schedules and map objects. Husqvarna lists what it keeps: security level, PIN code, loop signal, messages, date and time, language and country. It says a total reset, like on a smartphone, is not possible on an Automower1. The article says no more than that, so treat your schedules and map objects as things you may need to set up again.

  • NERA, Aspire R4, R6V, 308V and 312V (in the Automower Connect app). Select your mower, then More > Settings > General > Reset to factory settings.
  • Older models with a keypad. In the menu, go to Settings > General > Reset all user settings, then choose Proceed with reset of all user settings and confirm.

If you have lost the connection to the app, Husqvarna points to a separate article on reconnecting1.

If the reset does nothing

If the reset does not complete, or nothing happens after you confirm1:

  1. Charge the battery. Leave the mower on its charging station for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Restart the mower.
  3. Try the reset again.
  4. If it still fails, sign out of the app and back in, then try the reset once more.
  5. If it still fails, contact a Husqvarna dealer.

If you have forgotten your PIN, Husqvarna has a separate article on recovering or resetting it1. If the display is blank or frozen, it has another.

When the app says "manual action required"

For safety reasons some errors cannot be cleared remotely. Husqvarna's examples are someone pressing the STOP button, or the mower tilting or colliding with an obstacle1.

Before you restart, make sure the cause of the error is gone. Remove obstacles, or stand the mower upright. Then:

  • NERA. Press the jog wheel to wake the display, press STOP, enter your PIN, go to the start symbol and press it, then choose an operating mode such as Start according to schedule.
  • Aspire R6V, 308V and 312V. Press STOP, enter your PIN with the number buttons, then select Start mowing or Park.
  • Older keypad models (such as the 420). Press STOP to open the display, enter your PIN and press OK, press START and close the hatch.

Some errors can be cleared from the app. If it shows "Reset Error", tap it and restart the mower from the app1.

Still stuck

Husqvarna's last step is a dealer, or its Product Assistant for step-by-step guidance1.
